Enforcing the Clean Water Act

Since 1990, Environment Ohio staff have filed 12 lawsuits under the Clean Water Act, forcing illegal polluters to pay over $2 million in fines. In a landmark case, Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel paid $700,000 for polluting the Ohio River. Read more.

I am signing in support of full restoration of Clean Water Act protection to all of our lakes, rivers, streams and wetlands.

I am concerned that recent Supreme Court rulings have exempted streams and wetlands from the full protection of the Clean Water Act. These waters are important for their own sake, for the wildlife they support, for their role in providing our communities with clean drinking water, and for the joy they bring to our lives.

This environmental problem is neither costly nor complex to fix. It requires only one thing: the courage to stand up to powerful polluters and correct an egregious error in the law. Restore the Clean Water Act today!
