Dear Governor Strickland,
I remember when the
astronauts sent back pictures of the Earth from space -- a small blue sphere,
glowing and beautiful in the darkness of space, an oasis of life and
light. It looked so small and
vulnerable. And we know now that it is
small and vulnerable, that human activity is making it less glowing and
beautiful, less welcoming to life than it used to be. It's our responsibility to take care of our
Earth, to stop and even reverse the damage while we still can. So that we can go out and weed and putter and
pick tomatoes in our gardens, breathe the warm air and feel the cool breeze. So that we can go to our national parks, hike
in pine-scented woods, see glaciers and grizzly bears. So that we can LIVE and relish all the wonder
and beauty of this little blue sphere we call home.

As a United States
citizen, I believe that I am educated. With this education, it would be plausible
to think that every US
citizen would make decisions that were right. Today, the US is facing a
problem regarding pollution and we have the solutions at our fingertips. To not
write a letter, to not recycle, to not get involved is not respectful to what
has been given to us. I want to give back what has been given and leave the
earth with respect, as an educated women. Please make the right choice. Thank
you and peace to you.

Global warming is destroying
our country's food supply by drastically reducing the bee and butterfly
populations. These pollinators are vital
to our very survival as human beings and are being steadily eradicated by the
growing menace of global warming. Our
water supply is threatened as well. If
global warming continues unfettered, we will soon be paying higher prices for
drinking water than we currently are paying for gasoline. End the use of petroleum products and the end
of global warming will be on the horizon.

I have spent 5 years working
on solar panels after I was 70 years of age. I got paid very well, but please
note that after age 70 most folks goof off. My committment as a scientist is
that it is probaly the most import job government can do for its citizen along
with finding a way to stop all wars.
(And I am a veteran Of the Unite States Marine Corps). Thank you,

As I spend my summer reliving
my own childhood as a camp counselor, I realize how important the environment
around me is to my camp experience. At a
camp nestled in the Cacoctin
Mountains, it seems like
I am far away from the problems of global warming, but the consequences
polluting still affect our camp. More children are overheating and getting
sunburns during their activities than ever before. While these problems can be remedied with
close care by staff, we cannot remedy the real problem.

I decided to do what I did 25
years ago when I first started working at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, OH
and that is carpooling. I carpooled with
three other civilians for close to three years and charged them a dollar a day
transportation fee. I now have one
carpooler at $5 per day and she still saves $6 to $7 per day in gas and I pick
her up at her home and drop her off at the front door of her ofiice. She no longer has parking problems with long
walks to her car.
If everyone of the 24,000
civilians at Wright-Patterson would just ride with one person each day we could
get 12,000 cars off the road and reduce accidents, entrance gate backups and
parking problems. There are 10,000
contractors who work at Wright-Patterson and they could reduce their cars by
5,000 per day. A total reduction of
17,000 cars per day and a huge reduction of our carbon footprint. I'm going to go further and find two more
carpoolers and this will save me $75.00 dollars in fuel each week and save me
$3,750 dollars per year based on a 50 week year allowing 2 weeks of
vacation. This is a great savings for
our family as I am currently spending about $3,500 for gasoline per year for my
car only!
Everyone wins by saving
money, having cleaner air, lowering fuel consumption, eliminating parking
problems, reducing entrance gate waiting times and saving lives on the roads
and highways. Governor Strickland is
doing a great job, BUT HE NEEDS ALL OF US WORKING TOGETHER TO REDUCE OUR GLOBAL
WARMING POLLUTION. OUR WORLD IS IN
DANGEROUS PERIL AND ALL WE NEED TO ACT NOW!

I want our state, country,
and world to be a better place for our children than it is for us. My generation is paying the price for decades
of ignorance and short-sightedness, and I don't wish to pass those issues on to
my children. It's time to start putting emphasis
on Quality of Life and less emphasis on Gross National Product.

Two years ago I got a
terrible case of bronchitis and was very sick for over a month. Since then I have a type of asthma that comes
on with strenuous work outdoors. On many days I can not exercise or ride my
horse outside because the air starts up this asthma. (I have never smoked,) The air in Ohio is polluted from
antiquated COAL FIRED power plants that have also made all the lakes unsafe for
fishing because of mercury. Please adopt
policies that emphasize green energy.
- Dublin, OH 43017
Not a special person at
all...just think it's way past time to do something...or change the way we do
business, so those after us have a better and more responsible place to live.
At this point I'm one of those people living near a landfill cleaned up as a
superfund. Our community got together and held the line...now it's time for our
state to do the same. I know we would have to use multiple ways of producing
power...solar most probably couldn't be the sole way, but we CAN do it...if we
lead the way and in addition create more jobs...WOW...for a change Ohio could
lead!!!

On behalf of our children,the
world's children who are already suffering because of our inaction, we simply
must act now. On behalf of the planet's
systems already so stressed, on behalf of the myriad species threatened with
extinction-- we simply must act now.

Increasing energy efficiency
alone would enable people in Ohio
to live comfortable lives while using less energy. We need to reduce our use of
energy because it is an economic issue, a security issue, and an environmental
issue.
- Strongsville, OH 44149-3922
I simply do not understand
why there is an issue with starting an eco-friendly energy plan. The coal and
oil industries do have the money to persuade most politicians to do otherwise,
but they can't and will not be around forever. Renewable energy is the future
whether or not you choose to believe it. By investing time and effort into
these renewable resources our state will be at the forefront of our nations
entry to new energy sources. Global warming is our generation's biggest threat
as well as future generations. Stopping it will be hard, but it will never
happen if something isn't done about it now.

I happen to love this planet
we call home. I love the diversity and the abundance of life with which we
share the planet. CO2 pollution not only
will adversely affect the safety and predictabily which is essential for
people,it will also affect wildlie and the balnce of ecological systems. It is within human capacity and ingenuuity to
stop CO2 pollution now. We must do so for all life that share this lovely
Earth.
Thank you ro your attention.

Looking at China with
their polution problems they have to deal with now should provide us with
enough evidence that global warming is a serious problem that needs to be
addressed as a critical priority like Al Gore has said.

My father, a factory worker,
had a heart attack at 56 & had bypass surgery which gave him 20 more
years. He then died from a stroke. My mother, a nurse, had a stroke and died. My husbands father, a farmer, died at 55 from
a heart attack. Can we really say that
our parents lives were not cut short by environmental conditions at work and
outdoors....the air they breathed during our industrial growth...the water they
drank out of the faucet.
My husband, who is a
physicist, at 59 developed Early on Set Alzheimers when his uncles have lived
well into their 90's and were mentally sharp until they died. His mother and her twin lived into their mid
and late 80's with mental clarity. No
one will convince me that his disease was not environmentally induced. Our daughters who are now 24 and 28 both have
asthma. No relatives before them have
had asthma. Our girls were raised in Cleveland Ohio...a
manufacturing center when we moved here in 1981. I believe their asthma developed from their
environment as children.
The major responsibility of
our leaders is to make our country a better place for people to live. How can we have a good life if we have poor
health. What better gift can we give to
future generations than....clean air...clean water...and a clean earth not
riddled with toxic poisons! Air that we
can go outside and breath without checking to see if their is an Alert. Why is everyone drinking bottled water (may not
be much better) but people believe it is better than what arrives in their
faucets at home from our cities.
Wouldn't it be an outstanding experience to taste the truly wonderful
flavors of fresh fruits and vegetables the way they tasted when I was a child,
not covered with chemicals. Solving our
global warming and pollution may solve our countries other problems ...job
creation, growing health issues and not enough doctors, the poor not being able
to take care of themselves, the elderly
not being able to afford long term care, medicare and medicaid not having
enough money for future generations.
Govenor Strickland, please do
something now! Do not repeat what was done in the 70's during the energy
crisis. We were told that our natural
resources were dwindling. Ohioans and all the American People responded. We were asked to turn our thermostats down
and we wore coats inside our homes during the winter to stay warm. Then, our heating bills went up because we
weren't using enough fuel. Miraculously,
for the next 30 years we have heard very little about the depletion of
our natural resources until recently.
If you need our help, we will
help! Give us a fighting chance to make Ohio a leader in our
country, not a follower. I just read the Great Lakes
are one of the prime locations for Wind Power. We have the resources, let's use
them to "Make Ohio
GREEN and CLEAN". Please lead us!.

Our family is affected by
global warming pollution every day. Our asthmatic granddaughter, Roger's and my
requirments to walk indoors because of the ozone alerts, my two pneumonia bouts
because of my outdoor working environment... Lets make Ohio the #1 state in Environmental controls
on global warming with wind, solar and bio energy, make a list for all Ohians
to use to reduce their carbon footprint... I know we can do as well as Rwanda
is doing, can't we?
- Canal Winchester, OH 43110-9110
I feel Ohio must start to take action against
global warming now! All signs indicate
that humanity as well as nature will pay an enormous price (sooner than we wish to acknowledge).. I fear
for our country's youth. That they will not be able to enjoy the world as we
know it and most probably be facing serious environmental, pollution, and
climate turbulence, environmental refugees, poverty due to climate change which
is currently hitting the poor, etc. I'm
not sure we have the luxury of 20 years postponement. It's time to make and work at the right
decisions... not decisions driven by economic power alone.
