Restore Clean Water Act Protections

What's New

On June 18, the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee approved the Clean Water Restoration Act (S.787) to ensure that all of our rivers, streams and wetlands are once again protected from polluters.

Now we are working to get a similar bill introduced in and passed through the House.

How You Can Help

Tell your representative to make sure that Lake Erie, and all of our rivers, lakes and streams, are protected by the Clean Water Act.

Background

Lake Erie is Worth Protecting

Lake Erie is an irreplaceable treasure -- creating lasting memories for our families, adding enjoyment to our lives, and providing us with drinking water.

Each summer Ohioans and people across the region come to enjoy our beautiful waters. When the lake provides us with so much, why on earth are we letting polluting industries dump into the streams that feed it?

To defend Lake Erie, Environment Ohio is asking our members of Congress to support the Clean Water Restoration Act.

Lake Erie needs our help

Lake Erie can only be as clean as the streams and wetlands that clean and feed it. But recent Supreme Court decisions gutted 30 years of protections provided by the Clean Water Act, effectively writing an estimated 60 percent of Ohio's streams right out of the law -- streams that provide drinking water for 3 million Ohioans.

Environment Ohio is working to restore these protections to all of our waters, but big polluters and their allies in Congress are trying to stop us. That's why we're calling on our state's congressional delegation to stand up for Lake Erie by supporting the Clean Water Restoration Act.
