Columbus, Ohio – Today, a group of environmental and consumer advocates joined forces to submit reply comments in the electric rule making proceeding at the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO). Over 30 interested parties commented on the proposed rules that dictate the future of energy efficiency and renewable energy in Ohio.

Industry representatives cite key improvements Ohio House Speaker Jon Husted and Representative Jim McGregor have proposed in House Bill 487, the renewable energy bill now being considered by the Ohio House of Representatives.

Columbus: Speaker Jon Husted and Chairman Hagan unveiled the basics of the new Substitute Senate Bill 221 which will include the strong renewable energy standard put forth in Representative McGregor’s HB487.

Columbus: The Ohio House passed Sub Senate Bill 221 today which includes a 12.5% renewable energy standard. The standard includes annual benchmarks for renewable energy, strong enforcement measures and a .5% carve-out for solar energy.

Columbus: In a unanimous vote the Ohio Senate concurred with Sub Senate Bill 221 that was passed out of the Ohio House yesterday. Included in the legislation are strong standards for renewable energy and energy efficiency that will result in 12.5% of Ohio’s electricity coming from clean renewable sources of power and a 22% cumulative reduction in energy usage by 2025.

Washington, DC—The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee today released a substitute to the Climate Security Act, which is scheduled to be debated on the Senate floor in early June.

“Today the House took an important step toward fighting our dependence on dirty energy sources like fossil fuels and nuclear and put us on a path towards combating global warming by passing the Energy and Job Creation Act of 2008, H.R. 6049. The act extends federal tax incentives that are needed to promote renewable energy technologies and energy efficiency and help promote the burgeoning renewables industry which will add clean green jobs in the United States.

We thank Senator Brown for supporting clean energy and a green economy by voting in support of extending essential tax incentives for clean energy today. Unfortunately, Senator Voinovich voted to against this important bill and we are extremely disappointed that he opposed this effort.
